Reviewed 6 November 2026. Practical learning guidance for P5 and P6 families.
There is no reliable shortcut that lets a family ignore parts of the examinable syllabus. Plan revision around the current syllabus and your child’s learning gaps, rather than unsupported predictions about which topics will appear most often.
Use the syllabus as the coverage checklist
Primary Science is organised around Diversity, Cycles, Systems, Interactions and Energy. PSLE preparation draws on learning across the primary years. Use your child’s school materials and the current official requirements to check the content to revise.
The SEAB examination information identifies the assessed knowledge and inquiry skills. It does not establish the topic-frequency percentages previously quoted in this article.
Start with evidence from marked work
List concepts your child misunderstands, question instructions they misread and explanations they leave incomplete. Prioritise repeated gaps while keeping time to revisit the wider syllabus. A high score on one topic does not prove all related concepts are secure.
Connect topics through questions
A question may require more than one idea. For example, an explanation about a plant may involve its needs, transport systems and interactions with its surroundings. Identify the relevant relationships in the actual question instead of adding every fact learnt about plants.
Balance knowledge, application and inquiry
- Check that key concepts and vocabulary are accurate.
- Apply those ideas to unfamiliar examples.
- Interpret graphs, tables and experimental information.
- Explain reasoning clearly and evaluate whether the evidence supports a conclusion.
Practise the current paper format
From 2026, Booklet A has 30 MCQs worth 60 marks and Booklet B has 10–11 structured questions worth 40 marks. The duration is 1 hour 45 minutes. Older papers can still provide practice, but their format may differ.
Build a flexible revision plan
Alternate targeted practice with mixed-topic questions. Review mistakes, revisit them later and adjust the plan when new gaps appear. Avoid assigning a fixed share of revision to a topic based on an unverified claim that it accounts for a particular percentage of PSLE marks.
Support at Bestminds Academy
Regular P5 and P6 Science classes are taught by Mr Daniel Tay, a former MOE teacher and former PSLE Science marker. Lessons focus on understanding concepts, applying them and communicating clear answers. See our weekly programme, Bestminds Learning Space overview and class schedule.
Contact Mr Daniel to check current P5/P6 class availability. A waitlist may be available if your preferred class is full. Learning needs and progress differ between children; tuition does not guarantee a particular grade.
